[ Don't know what this is all about? Read This. ]

Our petition is still in progress, but that doesn't mean you can't go straight to the top. Awareness is the first step before action.

The Rumblings... Progress of the movement

People are talking about us, blogging about us and um... facebook-group-joining about us. That's great, and we want to make sure all of this attention can be translated into action. The best way for you to help that happen is to sign the petition, tell your friends and get the word out. We're working with some fabulous folks and have more in store for you. This story isn't going anywhere and we promise to keep you updated.

Follow us as we update you on progress, send the word out to folks who care, and generally raise hell (in a peaceful kind of way.)

The Village Voice knows what's up

Check out this article by Camille Dodero on the Village Voice blog. In it she calls New York Noise "A cultural staple of Bloomberg's city-television network NYC-TV, the music-video show we've spent years glued to predates YouTube, the music-vlog trend of filming bands playing in novel locations, and nearly all MP3 blogs."

UPDATE (2:00PM Thursday 3/4):

The Voice has followed up on this story, including some more interesting background on the changes at NYCTV that brought about the halt in NY Noise's production. If reading about how bureaucratic snafus in an opaque city-agency resulted in the sidelining of one of the station's most popular shows gets you all rankled, make sure you sign the petition.

Some Background

"New York Noise is an hour-long TV show which airs Wednesday nights at 11 pm on nyctv (generally channel 25) in New York and parts of New Jersey and Connecticut. It is also viewable on the web" (from wikipedia)

On Thursday February 25th, NYC Media Group posted on their facebook group that "'NY Noise' is currently on hiatus." This announcement came several weeks after NYCTV started playing reruns of the show and then moved it to a predawn timeslot. We were disappointed to hear this news and feared for the show's future. New York Noise is one of only two shows anywhere on television in NYC that cover local and independent music.

We hope you will join us in speaking up in support of this critically-acclaimed show, which every week for eight seasons has brought to the airwaves the work of hundreds of local musicians, producers, filmmakers and other creative New Yorkers.

Let the NYC Media Group (an organization funded by your tax dollars) know that you value coverage of local and independent music. Add your name to our petition to bring New York Noise back to NYCTV. We will collect your names and deliver them to the relevant decision-makers.

You can also support us by joining our facebook group and checking back here. We will keep you up to date on this effort

Thanks for your support!
